Maldives

Make Maldives your Next Getaway

Think about where you live now. Is it cloudy and grey? Maybe you can hear car horns honking in the distance or cats fighting in the alley. How often do you find yourself  staring out at the world’s natural beauty? After thinking this over, how does a getaway sound? Maybe it’s time? If so, I’ve found the perfect place for you. If not, I think you’ll soon be convinced.

If it’s beauty you need and a  taste of the exotic, look no further than Maldives.

Maldives is a country consisting of 1,190 coral islands, amongst 26 natural atolls. This is a ring-shaped coral rim that encircles a lagoon. Whether it completely encircles a lagoon, or it just opens up into the depths of the ocean, the beautiful blues and greens of the atoll jutting through the water and becoming clean, white sand will amaze you. Each one has it’s own unique layout and structure and these geographic wonders are truly one of a kind. Sadly, many of these atolls are slowly sinking under the waves due to the climate changes. To best see these, you must travel via sea propeller plane, or better yet, snorkel!

On the pristine beaches, you will feast your eyes on clear and sparkling waters. But you won’t just be spending your days as a beach bum — a coral reef is one of the most diverse and amazing ecosystems on the planet. Go snorkel or dive everyday! You’ll be greeted by ancient sea turtles, schools of neon striped fish, majestic reef sharks, and, of course, corals of all colors, shapes, and sizes.

After marveling at the wildlife and their coral habitat, you’ll be ready to explore a habitat of your own. Maldivian bungalows are akin to your own “private” island. During your stay, you will open your door to fresh ocean air, crystal water, and sunshine aplenty. And in a water bungalow, the view is not so much about what’s out the window (although, it will be breathtaking), but what you an see through your glass floor. Schools of fish will wander underneath your abode, or maybe even an elegant stingray will glide on through.

We enjoyed our stay at Clubmed Kani (Note: this is not a sponsored post)

Where there is wondrous sea life and rich culture, there is great seafood. Maldives is no exception. Cooked, raw, saucy, or smoked, look no further for exemplary delicatessen. Lobster, crabs, sashimi, if it is seafood, Maldives does it well. And with stars shining from above and fish darting below, regardless of your choice of cuisine, you will have a lovely ambiance.

If you are ready to experience some culture and learn about the people of Maldives, then it is time to go to Male. A quaint town dotted with beautiful mosques (the main religion is Sunni Islam), shopping, and cozy beach cafes, Male is the capital of Maldives. Here you will be amazed at the density of human life! It is a great contrast to the other, tranquil islands and is either a good welcome to the island life, or a good way to re-introduce yourself to the world of the city.

NB: We flew from Singapore to Male via Singapore Airlines (approx 4 hour flight) and transit via a speedboat to Kani island (approx 30 mins).
